Meta Restructures AI Group in Pursuit of Superintelligence

Meta Platforms Inc. is undergoing another reorganization of its artificial intelligence division, splitting the newly formed AI group into four specialized teams. The restructuring aims to accelerate the company's ambitious goal of achieving superintelligence, according to an internal memo from Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang.

The revamped structure creates Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), comprising four distinct units: TBD Lab for large language models, FAIR for fundamental research, Products and Applied Research for commercialization, and MSL Infra for supporting infrastructure. This MOVE follows Meta's significant investments in AI talent and resources.

Wang emphasized the need for focused organization around research, product development, and infrastructure to achieve breakthroughs in artificial intelligence. The restructuring reassigns numerous existing AI employees across these new specialized teams.
